Application Service Providing (ASP) is a form of outsourcing, with which a service provider rents applications out, that can be used over an internal or public network. The ASP model creates an enormous cost reduction potential particularly for small and middle-size enterprises, since the possibility of cost reduction increases with the growing complexity of the applications. This means, that the need for high investments into own IT infrastructure, expenditures for software licences, maintenance and service ceases to exist. Access to the software solution can be gained over secured intra- or extranet connections. For the application of the ASP model the user needs only an Internet connection and a PC workstation with a usual Web browser installed.
